Living on Crypto in India
Zero cash, all crypto: my digital money survival guide in India — morning chai to insurance!

Welcome to my life—a life where I pay for everything using crypto. No cash. No UPI. No credit cards. Just pure, glorious, decentralized digital currency. Every morning, I wake up, set my budget, and challenge myself to survive another day in India using only crypto. Spoiler alert: It’s totally possible.
Let me take you through my day and how I actually use crypto for every expense—from my morning chai to my insurance premiums (yes, that’s a thing).
Step 1: Budgeting My Crypto Stash for the Month
I start by allocating around ₹50K worth of crypto (converted into stablecoins like USDT or USDC to avoid market mood swings). Here’s how I break it down:
- Utilities & Bills
- Conveyance & Transport
- Food & Snacks
- Insurance & Savings
- Gifts & Miscellaneous
That’s the plan. Now, let’s see how I actually pull this off.
Morning Hustle: Paying Bills with Crypto
The month starts and I clear my bills because, well, being an adult is hard.
- Electricity & Water Bills: I use SpendCrypto to buy prepaid vouchers. Electricity, Wifi, water and gas are all facilitated through Amazon Pay Gift Card, while others require a little jugaad (read: crypto-to-gift card conversions).
- Mobile Recharge: Same strategy—SpendCrypto lets me top up my Jio/Airtel plan with crypto in seconds via Amazon Pay.
- WiFi & OTT Subscriptions: Amazon Prime and Spotify? Paid using crypto through intermediary services. Because I refuse to let fiat currency control my binge-watching.
Bills paid, let’s get moving
Commuting: Getting Around Town with Crypto
The transport struggle in India is real. But guess what? Crypto’s got me covered.
Primary Option: Metro
If I’m taking the Delhi Metro, I use AmazonPay to buy metro recharge vouchers using USDT/USDC. It’s seamless, and I avoid long queues.
Secondary Option: Cabs & Autos
Uber/Ola apps accept gift cards you can buy using crypto. I use Blusmart as well by transferring some funds from Amazon wallet to Blusmart wallet.
For outstation travel, if any- I buy Makemytrip or Easemytrip vouchers and book my train/flight/hotels accordingly. At times I also pay for my friends and put the amount owed on Splitwise (there are no friends when it comes to monies)
No matter how I travel, I make sure my wallet is stocked with enough crypto to get me where I need to be.
Breakfast & Lunch: Feeding My Face with Digital Gold
Morning hunger is real, and crypto makes sure I never go hangry.
Street Food & Small Vendors
The chaiwala near my office orders a lot from Flipkart but isn’t very tech savvy. I use my flipkart voucher to order for him and in turn I get chai and snacks whenever I am there(A true hack for the crypto lifestyle.)
Restaurants & Cafés
Also, food delivery services Zomato? I use my crypto there too. It's mostly homely meals delivered during lunch times.
Pro tip: if you buy a zomato gift card through AmazonPay (which I added through my magic digital money) you get an additional 3% discount (most times). So, I eat well and save money.
Midday Check-In: Insurance, Savings & Investments
I don’t just spend crypto—I also invest and secure my future.
- Health & Life Insurance: My health insurance allows payments through wallets which makes sure my insurance premium gets paid.
- Savings & Staking: I stash some crypto in DeFi platforms like Aave or Compound, earning passive income while I go about my day.
- Investments: I buy a tiny bit of Bitcoin, because who knows? Maybe today’s ₹1,000 will be worth ₹1 lakh someday.
Because financial planning is important—even when you’re living the crypto dream.
Evening Shopping: Crypto for Clothes, Gifts & Everything Else
The evening is when I go full crypto maximalist and push the limits of what I can pay for.
Shopping
There are a lot of options available when it comes to shopping. I use SpendCrypto to buy these gift cards instantly. Need new sneakers? Done. Want the latest gadget? Easy.
Gifts & Online Purchases
Got a birthday coming up?I buy a digital gift card from the gifts catalogue. This is where spendcrypto really shines with its choices. The body shop? Titan? Or Starbucks for that date? It's all available.
Entertainment & Leisure
Movie tickets? Buy a PVR gift card and get them corner seats. Gaming? Platforms like Steam and PlayStation Store accept crypto indirectly via wallets like AmazonPay.
Crypto keeps my life fun and financially efficient.
Nightcap: Wrapping Up the Crypto-Powered Day
By the time night falls, I’ve successfully lived an entire day without touching INR.
- I’ve paid for all my essentials.
- I’ve commuted across the city with zero hassle.
- I’ve eaten, shopped, and even saved for the future—all using crypto.
Some people say crypto is just an investment. I say it’s a lifestyle. If you’re ready to break free from traditional finance, try living on crypto for a day. You might be surprised at how easy (and fun) it is.
