How to Use a DoorDash Gift Card: Redeem, Send and Spend It

A DoorDash gift card is about as simple as gift cards get. You redeem it once, it turns into DoorDash Credits, and those credits come off your next orders automatically. The confusion starts with the other cards in your wallet. Can you pay for DoorDash with a Visa gift card? A Starbucks card? A card bought in another country?

This guide covers how to redeem and send a DoorDash gift card, what it will and won’t pay for, how other gift cards behave on DoorDash, and what the common error messages mean. Everything was checked against DoorDash’s own help pages and terms in October 2026.

How to redeem a DoorDash gift card

You need a DoorDash account and a delivery address saved to it. Then:

On an iPhone

  1. Tap the account icon.
  2. Tap Gift Card, then Redeem.
  3. Enter the gift card PIN and tap Redeem to your account.

On Android

  1. Open your account, then Settings.
  2. Tap Gift Card.
  3. Enter the PIN and tap Redeem Gift Card.

On the website, open your account, choose Gift Card, then Redeem, and enter the PIN.

At checkout, open your cart and look for Have a gift card? next to the promo field. Tap Redeem Now and enter the 11-digit gift card PIN. Make sure you use the gift card option. A gift card PIN typed into the promo code box gives an error.

On a physical card, the PIN is under a scratch-off strip on the back. For an eGift card, it’s in the email or text.

What happens after you redeem

The value becomes DoorDash Credits. Credits add up, so a $25 card redeemed on top of $10 of existing credit leaves you with $35. They’re applied to your next order automatically. If they cover the whole order, you don’t need a card on file at all. If they don’t, the rest goes to your saved payment method, and checkout shows you the split before you pay.

To check your balance:

  • iPhone: Account, then Payment
  • Android: Settings, then Payment Methods
  • Website: Account, then Payments

What a DoorDash gift card can pay for

DoorDash says its gift cards work on “DoorDash orders across the U.S. (including restaurants, groceries and retail items available in your area)“. That covers restaurant delivery, grocery and convenience orders, and the retail stores on the app.

DoorDash doesn’t publish a line-by-line list of which charges credits cover, and its terms say it can change which orders are eligible. In practice, checkout shows exactly how much of your order the credits cover and charges any difference to your card, so you’ll see it before you confirm.

What it can’t pay for

  • Other gift cards. You can’t use credits to buy gift cards or prepaid cards, including the digital brand gift cards DoorDash sells.
  • Cash. Credits can’t be withdrawn, returned, resold or reloaded.
  • Someone else’s account. You can only redeem to your own account, and credits can’t be moved afterwards.
  • Caviar and DoorDash at the same time. Once a card is redeemed on one, the money stays there.

Two more things worth knowing. If you delete or deactivate your DoorDash account, any credits left on it are lost. And DoorDash doesn’t replace lost or stolen gift cards, so treat the PIN like cash.

Do DoorDash gift cards expire?

No. DoorDash’s terms say its gift cards don’t expire and carry no fees.

Don’t confuse them with promotional credits, the kind you get as a refund gesture or a referral bonus. Those can expire, typically after six months. Credits from a gift card you paid for don’t.

Can you use a Visa gift card on DoorDash?

Yes. A Visa, Mastercard or Amex gift card goes into DoorDash as a normal payment card, not as a DoorDash gift card. Add it in Payment with the card number, expiry date, security code and billing ZIP code.

Prepaid cards cause more declines on DoorDash than regular cards, for three reasons:

  1. Holds. On some orders, DoorDash places a temporary hold that’s higher than the checkout total, and charges the final amount once the order is done. If the card’s balance only just covers the order, the hold can fail.
  2. Tip changes. If you change the tip after checkout, DoorDash may refund the original charge and charge the new total, which needs the full amount free on the card again.
  3. Billing details. Many prepaid card issuers ask you to register a billing address or ZIP code before the card works online. If the ZIP you enter doesn’t match what the issuer has, the card is declined.

If you’re spending the last few dollars on a prepaid Visa card, leave some headroom or pay the rest with another card. A DoorDash gift card avoids all of this, because the credit is applied to your account before the order is placed.

The same applies to Vanilla gift cards. They’re prepaid Visa or Mastercard cards and work like any other card. DoorDash also sells Vanilla cards and sends problems with them to Vanilla.

Can you use a Starbucks, Chipotle or other restaurant gift card on DoorDash?

No. DoorDash only accepts its own gift cards as credit, and restaurant gift cards can’t be added as a payment method.

The brands say the same:

Brand gift cards you buy on DoorDash, which DashPass members sometimes get at 10% to 15% off, also can’t be spent on DoorDash. They’re for use at the brand itself. To use a restaurant gift card, order pickup or delivery through that restaurant’s own website or app, if it offers its own delivery.

How to send a DoorDash gift card

From DoorDash itself, go to the DoorDash gift card page, choose an amount, enter the recipient’s email address or phone number, add a message and pick the date it should arrive. You don’t need a DoorDash account to buy one. The recipient gets a link to a page with your message, the value and the PIN.

A few rules: you can’t change the delivery date once the order is confirmed. You can resend the card from your receipt, to the same person or a new one, but you can’t switch it from email to text or the other way round.

For a card you bought elsewhere, including one bought with crypto, just send the person the PIN or forward the delivery email. They redeem it on their own account the same way. Make sure the card is for the country they live in, because a US card won’t pay for orders in Canada or Australia.

One caution from DoorDash’s terms: it only honours gift cards bought from DoorDash or an authorised distributor. Avoid second-hand cards from auction sites or strangers selling codes at a discount.

How to buy a DoorDash gift card with crypto

SpendCrypto sells DoorDash gift cards for three countries:

CardAmounts
DoorDash USAny amount, $20–$500
DoorDash CanadaAny amount, CA$15–200
DoorDash AustraliaAny amount, A$25–500

The US card sold at face value when we checked in October 2026: a $50 card cost 50 USDT, or 0.00061 BTC.

  1. Pick the card for your country and choose an amount.
  2. Check out with your email address. You don’t need an account.
  3. Pay with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Solana, Tron, BNB, or USDT or USDC on several networks.
  4. When the payment confirms, the PIN appears on your order page and arrives by email. Redeem it in the DoorDash app as above.

For small cards, pay on a cheap network like BNB Smart Chain or Polygon so the network fee stays at a cent or less. Our guide to paying with USDT explains how. If you order every week, SpendCredits let you top up once and pay only one network fee.

Using DoorDash gift cards in Canada, Australia and New Zealand

DoorDash runs separate gift cards in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, each in its own currency. Your credit currency is set by your delivery address.

You can redeem a card from another country, but the credit can only be used on orders in that country. If you try to redeem a US card on an account set up in Canada, DoorDash tells you the gift code isn’t in your account’s credit currency. Buy the card for the country where the orders will be placed.

Daily limits

DoorDash caps redemptions at $2,000 per account per day, counting gift cards and purchased credits together. If you hit it, you’ll see a message about your account’s maximum balance, and you can try again after 24 hours.

For anything else, DoorDash has 24/7 chat in the app, and its support line is 855-431-0459 in the US.

Are DoorDash gift cards ever discounted?

Sometimes. Warehouse clubs and big retailers run occasional deals. In September 2026, deal trackers reported Costco.com selling two $50 DoorDash eGift cards for $79.99, limited to two packs every 14 days, and Target and Best Buy have run similar promotions in the past. These come and go without warning, so treat them as a bonus rather than something to count on.

Watch out for gift card scams

Nobody legitimate asks to be paid in DoorDash gift cards, whether it’s a tax office, a utility company, a “Dasher” or someone you’ve met online. As the US Federal Trade Commission puts it, “gift cards are for gifts.” If you’ve been targeted, contact DoorDash support straight away and report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Common questions

Can you use a gift card on DoorDash?

Yes, if it’s a DoorDash gift card: redeem it under Account, then Gift Card, and it becomes credit on your account. Visa, Mastercard and Amex gift cards can be added as a payment card. Restaurant gift cards, like Starbucks or Chick-fil-A, can’t be used on DoorDash.

Where is the PIN on a DoorDash gift card?

On a physical card, under the scratch-off strip on the back. On an eGift card, in the email or text you received. It’s 11 digits long.

Do DoorDash gift cards expire?

No. Gift card credit doesn’t expire and has no fees. Promotional credits from DoorDash, such as refunds or referral bonuses, can expire.

Can I use a DoorDash gift card on Uber Eats?

No. DoorDash credit only works on DoorDash. For Uber Eats, you need an Uber Eats gift card.

Can I use a US DoorDash gift card in Canada?

You can redeem it, but the credit only works on orders in the US. For orders in Canada, use a Canadian DoorDash card.

Can I get cash back from a DoorDash gift card?

No, except where the law requires it. DoorDash credit can only be spent on DoorDash.

What happens to my credits if I delete my DoorDash account?

They’re lost. Spend your balance before deleting or deactivating your account.

Where to start

If you’re in the US, a DoorDash gift card in whatever amount covers your usual week is the simplest setup. It costs face value, redeems in seconds, and never expires. For groceries specifically, Instacart works the same way, and the gift card catalogue has the rest.
